Long time no post!

Well it has been a long time hasn't it!

And what a better time to post again, since my last post (wow, was it really May?!) the jacket has come in leaps and bounds. Bounds mainly. No actually, things beginning with 'b'.

That's right!

Badges!

Lots of badges are slowly being identified after many long chats with new found co-cosplayer Kurt* whom has an eagle-eye and is a hot eBayer!

Without Kurt, many of the new badges identified (two of them, the mysterious badges mentioned previously) will not have been found! More about these when my copies arrive.

Its good to finally be talking to someone who not only knows what they are talking about, plus is making the thing themselves but especially given that they are more keen than I to trail through hundreds of pages of eBay searches! Haha.

Anyway, you may also have noticed that the website has had a redesign! Gone are my crude photoshopped graphics and welcomed a more stylised wallpaper that really sets this blog aside from the others. Though, its still black, but Ace wears black (mostly) so maybe I'm stuck with that...

Next Time... Badge updates

*Kurt has also crossed into my own field of fan audios, impersonating The Seventh Doctor Who in Darker Projects' "The Infinity Doctors" which also, ironically, features my own fan Doctor's companion actress, Tegan Harris, as Ace!]

Progress Shot (May 2011)

This was taken earlier this month, since, there has been alot of new badge arrivals which have yet to be added, but just to show the progress on the jacket; here's my beautiful wife sporting the latest JNT trends.

As you can see, missing the main biggest patches and a few little badges but we're getting there. Since these pictures was taken, the pirate badge, the Rupert Bear club badge have been added.

Waiting arrival on the communist star and still developing the back Ace and other more custom patches and badges.

Its on the cards...

In my vague attempt to track down some more badges, I found a nice little auction for a badge of playing cards. As depicted by the warmcanofcoke breakdown of the badges, one is an arrangement of cards with the top face of the Ace of Diamonds.

I found the above badge on ebay and paid for it straight away.

It arrived the next day and I feel somewhat disappointed that, despite being informed it is roughly 1 inch in width, it is considerably smaller. Well I say considerably smaller, it is correct in width but for some reason I expected to be at least an inch in height.

The same happened previously when sourcing the Charlton Athletic badges, sellers macros are obviously very good at tricking me, or I'm just blind.

Nevermind. Not sure whether I will return it, or just put up with it.

Back to the search...

Patch: Red Star (Update)

Well, the seller finally delivered and I must say, it looks great!

It has a nice gold to it which really gives the shape texture and the added bonus is - the seller isn't asking a ridiculous price for it either!

I hope others find this and buy this for their jackets. Only thing I do not know yet, is the size, the seller has made this on my assumptions - which I'm still not clear about myself, so... more fingers crossed!

Awaiting delivery now

Patch: Red Star

In my quest to get all the patches ready made and never make my own (that day is almost dawning) I have found a seller on ebay that makes patches themselves and one had an interesting design on them...

Yes, this is the Communist/Russian/USSR red star that is seen on Ace's (her)left arm. As you can see this one is adorned by a circle, but I have politely asked the seller if they are the maker (which they are) and whether they can do a custom one as per the Ace patch - and they said yes!

I am awaiting the unique ebay auction to materialise, then will see 1) how much it is and 2) how close it is to the image I supplied.

Oh and thirdly, is it the right size? The ruler next to it suggests it may be alittle on the small size but given I have never met the original in person or am any good at getting measurements from pictures with scaling other objects, its all guess work!

Fingers crossed!

Aaaaarrrrgh what a find!

I may very well have found the elusive and mysterious Pirate head badge

Lets hope I get it!

That bear...

The elusive Rupert Bear Club badge, in its original 1980s condition, is almost in my hands...

Ace Jacket (on Ebay!)

What a rare occurrence, an Ace jacket on ebay! Check it out below (click the image to go there)

Sold by some friends of mine, from the fan filming world, looks like it was made using the instructions as documented by canofcake at livejournal. Looked quite good I thought!

1 day left! So get your bids in!

Buying patches... (2)

A new arrival!

This time its the British Small Arms shoulder patch that runs along the top of the left arm. Nothing too special about this patch, it is available in both silver trim (like this one) and gold trim. I bought this one off eBay on request of the seller.

Funny thing about this patch, is that it isn't always on the jacket! And I always remember this patch first, lol. This patch isn't seen in "Happiness Patrol", "Silver Nemesis" and "Greatest Show in the Galaxy"

I'm sure there's more - do bear with me!

First Progress Shot

Nowhere near complete of course, but I thought I'd share this; the first snap of the bomber jacket with patches and badges on it!

Hmm. Looks bare! Needs more badges/patches!

Making New Patches... Ace Roofing Co

With all the patches on this jacket, I know for sure they cannot be found or bought, particularly the Ace Roofing Co and Safe Driver/Atlantic Bell patches, so, like warmcanofcoke, I will be making this.. or at least photoshopping them and getting a company to embroider them!

While warmcanofcoke (of LiveJournal) did an excellent reproduction of this for their jacket, I always thought it looked a bit squashed, so I have made my recreation of the Ace Roofing Co patch.

This patch is always seen on Ace's jacket throughout the show and has been reproduced by the production crew for the duplicate/stunt jackets.

The top right graphic you'll see a badly done reproduction of the patch!! [Picture from "Battlefield" publicity pictures] tsk tsk BBC Costume Department - like we wouldn't notice (and we didn't but that's not the point)

For your information, the font is Bender by Jovanny Lemonad available for FREE at myfonts.com

I hope to summarise the company or companies I will be using to print/embroider these soon. Watch this space.

Happy Belated New Year (and Xmas!)

I hope all my readers (if any) had a good Christmas and a happy New Year - I know I did! And a wonderful year it'll be to finally finish this project and see my gorgeous wife in this jacket.

Best Wishes to you all
