About Sophie

Born in Blackheath, Sophie made her first professional steps by modelling clothes for the Mothercare catalogue in 1964, attending Blackheath High School before studying drama at Manchester University. After a few short years doing children's theatre she auditioned for "Doctor Who" but for the character of 'Ray' in 1987's "Delta and the Bannerman". After a second reading, producer John Nathan-Turner soon cast Sophie as 'Ace' in the story "Dragonfire".

It wasn't long before the character became the new permanent companion to Sylvester McCoy's Doctor Who, replacing 'Mel' Bonnie Langford, and soon the new TARDIS team set off for new adventures in time and space...
